Hi, I’m Julio ๐Ÿ‘‹

Welcome to my corner of the internet โ€” a personal blog where I write about what I’m building, what I’m thinking about, and life out here in Colorado. Pull up a chair.

  • First tournament win of the year. Reapers go 5โ€“0

This one meant something. After making it to the championship in the previous tournament and getting double dipped in the finals, this was our first tournament back. We had a point to prove, so we went out and ran the table: 5โ€“0 on the day.

    Reapers

    Record: 5โ€“0

    # Opponent Score Result
    1 Sandlot Boys 21โ€“1 W
    2 Road Warriors 19โ€“18 W
    3 Mi Gente 17โ€“14 W
    4 Black Gold 21โ€“18 W
    5 Black Gold 18โ€“17 W

That final against Black Gold was a classic. They came out swinging and emptied all four of their home-run-limit shots in the first inning, digging us into a 0โ€“16 hole. We slowly chipped away inning after inning and walked it off 18โ€“17 (on a homerun), one of the best comebacks any of us can remember.

The win also came with a cool $2,000 in prize money. The team voted to roll it straight into future tournaments so there’s plenty more Reapers softball on the way.

  • Starting this “blogging” thing

Welcome to zubie.blog, my personal corner of the internet. To be honest, I’m new to this so called blogging thing, and I don’t know if I’ll enjoy it, let alone keep up with it, but I’m going to give it a go.

I believe a large part of my hesitation has always been privacy. I don’t have any social media accounts aside from Reddit (where I don’t post or comment), nor have I ever actually felt the need to share things online.

This a slightly morbid, but my wife and I were watching a Dateline episode recently and I was taken aback by how much the victim’s life story could be told by all of the details they shared about themselves. Instantly I told my wife, “Wow if I pass you would have absolutely nothing to show”. She promptly listed a bunch of things and told me to hush ๐Ÿ˜‚.

Still, I think I could share a smidge more.

I’m telling myself this is a “log of life”. Something I or my friends/family can look back on one day. The audience is me…I think? At least to start.

I have no clue what I’ll post, frequency, none of that. I’m sure it’ll evolve. I’m building this blog during my 2026 support rotation where I tried out WordPress Studio to build a site. I also used Telex to build a custom block so I can record softball tournament results (check out post 2).

If you’ve found yourself here, welcome.

P.S – “zubie” is what everyone called me growing up. My first ever baseball coach couldn’t pronounce my last name “Zubillaga” so he just shorten it to “zubi” which morphed into “zubie”. (I guess it read better with the “e”?
